Background

Phil Berczuk's creative practice sits at the intersection of the natural and the constructed — drawing on organic forms, raw materials and elemental processes, as well as the geometry and texture of the built environment — transforming these influences into singular pieces of sculptural furniture

His background spans fine art, design and making. He completed a Masters in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts in the 1980s and was awarded the Cheltenham Fellowship in Painting in 1986, going on to practice as an artist for over a decade — exhibiting across the UK and in Europe, including solo shows at the 369 Gallery in Edinburgh and John Gruzelier Modern and Contemporary Art in London.

He later established and led a design consultancy within Steer Group, that grew into an award-winning, international practice before stepping down to return to hands-on making in 2023. Phil then spent a year training with acclaimed furniture designer Marc Fish at Robinson House Studio in East Sussex, graduating with Distinction in 2025, and in the same year received the Tom Faulkner Award for Distinctive Furniture Design at the New Designers Exhibition in London.

Phil currently lives and works in north London.
